SMALL ENGINE MECHANIC
General Statement of Duties
Performs responsible skilled mechanical work to maintain and repair small engine equipment.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class performs as a skilled mechanic. The employee conducts preventative maintenance and repairs on small equipment and trailers. Work includes the repair of engines, brakes, electrical, tires, and some hydraulic systems. Employees exercise judgment in diagnosing malfunctions of equipment and determining necessary repairs. Employees are subject to hazards of equipment mechanics including working in both inside and outside environments, and exposure to various hazards such as noise, vibrations, moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, dusts, mists, fumes, odors, and oil. In some jobs involving equipment, duties may expose the employee to human body fluids and thus the work is subject to level III of the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens. Work is performed under regular supervision and is evaluated through observation while in progress and inspected upon completion.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs preventive maintenance on small equipment and trailers.
Troubleshoots and repairs engines, brakes, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, ignition, emission, air, exhaust, driveline, transmission, and related problems and components.
Repairs small equipment such as weed eaters, lawn mowers, chain saws, generators, and UTV’s.
Repairs and inspects trailers.
Perform inventory of parts and tools.
Clean and maintain shop.
Perform electrical repairs and Assist other mechanics in Fleet as needed,
