Green Goods Assistant Manager, Green Side Up Garden and Gifts
Hours: 40 hours a week
Reports to Garden Center Manager
Summary: Responsible for daily sales of plant material in the Garden Center to hit
sales goals and for the appearance, maintenance and care of plants, materials and
garden area. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Retail Sales:
ï‚· Assisting customers with questions pertaining to plant material
ï‚· Helping develop small designs for customers
ï‚· Using knowledge to select appropriate plant material for different soils, sun exposure and other needs.
ï‚· Executing specials and promotions as directed by the Garden Center manger
ï‚· Hitting sales targets
ï‚· Opening and closing of store and register
Care of Plant Material
ï‚· Guaranteeing that plant material is weeded and watered daily and pruned and deadheaded weekly.
ï‚· Selecting best plant material for Garden Center stock beds from wholesale nursery
ï‚· Removing plants that are not appropriate for sale
ï‚· Creating plan for selection of plants for specific time of year
ï‚· Fertilizing and or treating plant material as needed Maintenance of Garden Center:
ï‚· Ensuring that the following duties have been performed daily by Green Side Up staff
o Standing up of plant material every morning
o Picking up of trash
o Picking up of stakes, ribbons and empty pots
o Emptying of weeding buckets and debris buckets
o Cleanliness of stock beds, green house and garden area by blowing of debris and separating and spacing of plant material
o Cleaning of pond filter
Receiving, Merchandising, and Inventory Control of Plant Material
ï‚· Creating list of plant material needed for Garden center and supplying list to General Manager for order from wholesale nursery or other suppliers.
ï‚· Keeping inventory numbers of plant material up to date with inventory software by providing General Manager with changes, removals or additions to plant inventory
ï‚· Creating a lay out of the garden area on a rotating schedule
ï‚· Creating custom-made planters to be made available for sale
Requirements
ï‚· Position requires working outdoors in both heat and cold
ï‚· Required to lift 50 pounds
ï‚· Plant knowledge
